ANIME ASE Convention Sevierville Events Center
This past week the Sevierville Events Center hosted hundreds of animation lovers and enthusiats to the first Anime SouthEast (ASE) Convention. For those unknowing of what anime is, it’s Japanese originated animated action and cartoon characters having adorned our video games and televisions throughout the world for over two decades.
Many guest attending the convention got into the spirit of the event by appearing dressed as their favorite anime characters. The fun child like to the dastardly villainous appeared. It’s not enough to just dress the part, several where able to portray and act in the spirit of their chosen characters.
The ASE Convention featured a marketplace filled with vendors selling anime related merchandise, video game-room, informal panel discussions, a late night rave, card game competitions and a judged costume contest. During the event Japanese foods were available and goody bags where passed out to attendees.
Though the event was primarily targeted towards attendees from Tennessee, the social word spread quickly to fans outside of Tennessee. Many guests came from other states, making the experience an “anime vacation” of sorts. The event seemed to have made a positive splash and we hope to see it return as an annual event. Seeing the costumed characters visiting throughout Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg was interesting to the thousands of area visitors unaware of the ASE Convention event in Sevierville.
